The men’s 40 plus class promotes the mental and physical benefits of Jiu-jitsu while learning practical self-defense skills.  Speaking from personal experience, as we get older it is imperative to exercise our mind, body and soul to adapt to the obstacles that come with aging.

-STRENGTHENING THE BODY-  By learning basic Jiu-jitsu techniques, we will increase strength by utilizing certain muscles that are not often used in every-day life.  With consistent training we will gradually increase flexibility, endurance and core strength.  Other benefits include an increase in reaction time, balance, coordination and weight loss.

-SHARPENING THE MIND-  Jiu-jitsu is similar to a chess game that is always changing, often requiring the mind to quickly make adjustments in order to counter your opponents  movements.  Our mind needs to follow suit to stay up to date with the different strategies and new techniques as well.  As a member of our Jiu-jitsu family, we are constantly helping each other evolve and fine tune our game, which in turn keeps the mind focused and sharp.

-ENRICHING OUR SOUL-  Our emotions often shape our self-image and sense of well-being – for good or bad.  Being part of a “Jiu-jitsu Family” will inevitably promote more positivity for 2 main reasons:   First- by having a community of people with common goals, we naturally form a bond that creates a safe place for open communication. On a daily basis, I see people talking and exchanging information.  Sometimes, it’s simple tips such as fixing cars or home improvements; but other times these conversations can grow deeper as people become more comfortable discussing challenges with addiction or family issues.  It’s soothing to the soul to help people, and on the flip side, there’s security in having a group of people you trust for help, if needed.  Second- no matter how bad of a day your having, Jiu-jitsu provides a couple hours to escape problems of everyday life. Of coarse, life’s problems may persist but usually after class you will feel recharged and ready to cope with these challenges in a more rational and confident way.
